Residency east-asia dialogue (r:ead) intends to share and raise the awareness of issues on art and society in East-Asia and aims to become a communication platform among artists and their partners (critics, dramaturges, curators etc.) residing in China, Korea, Taiwan and Japan. The program started in 2012 and held the first two years in Tokyo, Japan. We conducted the third program in Tainan, Taiwan as r:ead #3 in 2014 and the fourth program in Korea in 2015. This year, we are pleased to announce that the r:ead #5 will be held in Hong Kong in June. You can find information on r:ead #5 Facebook page. More details coming soon!

r:ead #4 is taking place from November 15 to November 25 in Korea. This time, an independent organization Art Space Pool and Arts Commons Tokyo have organized the program together, inviting 4 artists, 4 curators, 5 translators and 5 directors from Japan, Korea, Taiwan and China. (日本語) 今回で2年目を迎えたr:ead（レジデンス・東アジア・ダイアローグ）。「東アジア地域（中国、韓国、台湾、日本）のアーティストや、キュレーター、ドラマトゥルク、批評家のためのコミュニケーション・プラットフォーム」というコンセプトを掲げ、対話とプロセスを重視したレジデンス・プログラムとして実施されています。 今回のトークイベントでは、「そもそもr:eadとは？」という問いに答えつつ、このプログラムの全体像やビジョンを明らかにします。昨年の参加アーティストである小泉明郎氏、現在参加中の下道基行氏に、それぞれr:eadで得た対話や体験を語って頂きつつ、アジアのアートシーンで多くの実績をもつ森美術館の片岡真実氏をゲストにお迎えし、東アジアにおける同時代芸術と社会の関係について議論を深めます。司会は本プログラムのディレクター、相馬千秋が務めます。

After it’s first edition in held in 2012/2013, r:ead is now prior to the start of its 2nd edition. Like in the 1st edition, we invited four artists of the younger generation from China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan to come together in Tokyo and, while undertaking research in several areas of the city, to hold presentations and discussions regularly. The residency east asia dialogue’s 2nd period of stay (creation period) was held from Feb 22 to March 13, 2013. For the artists, this was their second stay in Tokyo after a one-week orientation period in December 2012, in which all participating artists initially gathered and shared their artistic ideas and previous work. For the r:ead curators the 2nd period of stay was their first encounter with Tokyo and the other r:ead participants.
